5 Magazines that Pay Writers

As part of our weekly effort to find paid publishing opportunities for writers, here is a list of 5 publishers that pay writers.

Pay information has been included for some of these publishers – but not all. Pay rates are often negotiated with the publisher directly. If you want to learn more about negotiating pay, getting a solid client base, and building a freelance writing career, I highly recommend this book.

1. Christian Camp & Conference Association publishes InSite – a magazine for the Christian camp and conference community. They pay 20 cents a word. Their submission guidelines have a direct link to sample issue. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

2. The Writer is a magazine “dedicated to expanding and supporting the work of professional and aspiring writers.” They want articles with clear takeaways for their readers. Queries are preferred. Articles vary from 300 to 3,000 words. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

3. This Magazine is a Canadian progressive magazine of politics, arts and culture. They publish “background and context to ongoing national issues.” To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

4.  American Bee Journal is the world’s oldest beekeeping publication. They publish a broad range of topics about bees and beekeeping. They accept article pitches via email. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
