Penguin Young Readers, in partnership with We Need Diverse Books™ is hosting a book contest with a $35,000 prize and a book contract. They’re specifically looking for ethnicially diverse writers writing for children aged 8-14.
There is absolutely no entry fee.
The deadline for submission is June 21, 2016. According to their website, the contest is open to “to people of color (or those who self-identify as other than white) who are residents of the fifty United States, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories and possessions, aged 18 and older.”
Books submitted should be 25,000 to 75,000 words. A 75 word author’s bio must be included with the entry.
Entries will be judged on “(i) overall storytelling; (ii) creativity; (iii) originality; and (iv) writing ability, with equal weight given to each criterion.”
