The Richard J. Margolis Award for Journalists & Essayists

The deadline for the Richard J Margolis award is approaching! It is an annual award that gives writers a one month residency at the Blue Mountain Center and a $5,000 prize.

According to their website:

The award was established in honor of Richard J. Margolis, a journalist, essayist and poet who gave eloquent voice to the hardships of the rural poor, migrant farm workers, the elderly, Native Americans and others whose voices are seldom heard. He was also the  author of a number of books for children.

Richard J. Margolis was a journalist who wrote about topics that are still important in today’s society. He was published widely by prestigious newspapers, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Boston Globe.

Applicants to the award should include 2 samples of their work, as well as a description of the project they will work on during the residency.

The deadline is July 1, 2019. Unlike many residencies, there is no fee for the application. To learn more, visit their website.
