The following is a list of magazines that pay writers at least $200 for some of the writing they publish.

1. Earth Magazine is a print magazine and website that offers “the science behind the headlines,” with a focus on earth science. They accept submissions from freelance writers as well as scientists. They are not a peer-reviewed journal, but focused more on connecting with the broad public. A recent report on Litworth showed a pay rate of 30 cents per word. 2. Georgia Magazine is the “most widely read magazine for about about Georgians.” (Georgia State, not the country.) They celebrate the people of Georgia, as well as Georgian history. Pay starts at $500 for features. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
3. New Mexico Magazine is published by the New Mexico Tourism Department. They pay $0.35-$0.40 cents per word for stories featuring New Mexico destinations, history, and people. To learn more, read their submission guidelines
4. Adventures in Odyssey Clubhouse is a Christian children’s magazine that publishes short stories and nonfiction. In addition to stories, they publish factoids, features of “ordinary kids doing extraordinary things, activities, humor, and interviews with noteworthy Christians. They pay $200 and up for short stories, and $150 and up for nonfiction. To learn more, read their submission guidelines
5. Small Boats Monthly is a print magazine that features boats and boating adventures. They profile specific boats, share compelling adventure narratives, and profile reader-built boats. They pay 30 cents per word and $50 per photo. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
6. Alabama Baby & Child is a regional print magazine for expecting and hopeful parents, published quarterly. They feature “mom stories,” including birth stories, “special delivery”, and community champions. They pay 25 cents per word. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
